Keep Dreaming featuring Nduduzo Makhathini

Nduduzo Makhathini (piano), Nero Vergaert (sax), Toon Rumen (double bass), Lukas Jouck (drums)

In preparation of the 48th Breathing project, the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp invited none other than South African composer/pianist Nduduzo Makhathini as coach. He will rehearse intensively with the students for a week. You will hear and see the result of their creative quest on the stage of the De Singer on Wednesday 16 November.

With the Breathing project, the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp has been supporting jazz students for ten years now, both logistically and artistically, in their search for their own personality. It does so by engaging an established jazz musician for in-depth, intensive coaching.

With Nduduzo Makhathini, the conservatoire was able to attract the rising star of the South African young guard. Makhathini was selected by Blue Note as the standard-bearer of their new African branch Blue Note Africa. This jazz pianist, composer shared the stage with luminaries such as Wynton Marsalis, Nasheet Waits or Logan Richardson. His music is virtuoso and exudes his spiritual and ritualistic vision of the world.

"After just a few seconds you think: this pianist looks like a cross between McCoy Tyner and Abdullah Ibrahim: the dexterity of the former, the South African spirit of the latter." noted De Standaard in June '22.  The Singer is therefore particularly delighted to host this unique musician. And that in the talented company of Nero Vergaert (sax), Toon Rumen (double bass), Lukas Jouck (drums), or together Keep Dreaming.
