Classical music at the Antwerp Conservatoire: mastery with a future.

Those who choose Classical Music at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp are choosing intensive professional training at the highest level. That much is certain. But today's professional field demands more than just thorough expertise in the main discipline. It requires artists who can forge their own path, who are curious and enterprising, who collaborate across disciplinary boundaries, and who can shape and present their ideas themselves. Two tracks that we are commited to in equal measure.

Two tracks

The traditional main subject programme, as offered by all conservatoires, forms a solid foundation. On top of that, we add a second, unique track that broadens your perspective and deepens your practice. The two tracks run parallel from the start, intertwining and reinforcing each other. So it is not a choice between excellence in the main discipline or creative deepening: for the Conservatoire, both learning pathways are of the utmost importance with a view to a successful future in your field.
In the second track, you will work on improvisation, socio-artistic practice, digital skills, interdisciplinary collaboration or context-based creation. You will discover how to set up projects, how to reach an audience and how to connect your artistic voice with other art forms. Step by step, you will build a versatile profile that fits the reality of today's professional field.

Creative project

In addition to a final recital, every Master's student in Instrument/Vocal Studies will present a personal creative final project at an external location in the city. This means you will not only shine within the Conservatoire, but also in a context where audiences, partners and professionals are watching. You will tailor your own artistic concept to a target audience and take control of both the artistic side and the organisational/production aspects. This experience will make you stronger and more confident and give you a concrete preview of the reality of the professional field.

Future

Our alumni often opt for a hybrid career in which they combine multiple roles: soloist, orchestral musician, creator, ensemble member, freelancer, organiser, teacher, coach, conductor, producer or entrepreneur. This is not a stopgap measure, but a rich and dynamic model that gives them precisely the freedom that so many artists seek. And yes, there is room in the sector for those who are well-trained, agile and creative.

Let us prepare you for a career that moves with a changing world and with your talents.
