The Royal Conservatoire Antwerp may organize the master Dance from 2020 onwards and thus completes its offer in programmes.
The Royal Conservatoire Antwerp may organize the Master Dance from 2020 onwards. This makes it the first institution in Flanders to deliver a degree in dance at master's level.
"The educational and professional field has been demanding a Master’s programme in Dance for a while now," says Stefaan De Ruyck, head of the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp. "With this programme, we make our offer even more complete."
The Master focuses on both graduated bachelor students and artists with an active practice in dance or movement. It offers students the opportunity to question their practice, to focus on artistic research and to link their work to a wider societal context. Dancers coming from the professional Bachelor will first follow a premaster programme of 45 credits. The Master’s programme comprises 60 credits but is offered in four modules and spread over two years, making it possible to combine with an (artistic) practice.
The Bachelor programme in Dance encompasses artistic performance, creation and contextual material, to enable the professionally oriented Bachelor student to enter the professional field after three years of education.
The new Master's programme was developed by a core team of coordinators and teachers from the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. Students, alumni, artists, educational partners and art organisations were also involved in the preparation of the new programme.
"The Master’s programme enables dance artists to focus on their 'embodied artistic research' in an inspiring environment. With the body as the focus, time and space is provided to reflect, develop, practice and realize their artistic concept in a wider context ", says Natalie Gordon, coordinator Dance. "The programme provides a framework to realize personal, creative potential with inspirational input from a team of international contributors."
The Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp already offers the academic Bachelor and Master programmes in drama and music, a professional Bachelor programme in dance and specific teacher training in dance, drama and music.
