Vacancy: Section chairperson of Brass and Chamber Music teacher (Brass)

We are looking for a colleague who, from the academic year 2026–2027 onwards, will take on the coordination of the Brass Section, coordinate and (partly) lead the brass ensemble (on Wednesday afternoons), and teach chamber music to brass students.

We are seeking a colleague with a good command of both Dutch and English. The appointment will be as a contractual staff member. For the role of Section Chair, a transition year is foreseen, during which you will work in tandem with an experienced colleague. The total workload is still subject to change but will amount to approximately 25%.

Teaching responsibilities

You will carry out teaching activities within the course unit Chamber Music (groups of brass players and mixed ensembles). You will align learning outcomes, content, teaching methods and assessment formats with the final competences of the Classical Music programme and with the artistic-pedagogical policy of the conservatoire. You will support students in achieving the learning outcomes, systematically update teaching materials and translate them into well-founded learning content. You will contribute as teacher and assessor to chamber music examinations.

Coordinating tasks

As section chairperson of Brass, you will be responsible for the artistic vision, planning, coordination and day-to-day management of the section, in consultation with fellow techers, principal subject teachers and the Artistic Music Board. You will actively seek external contacts in support of artistic practice and development. You will contribute to the development, updating and quality assurance of curricula, learning outcomes, study materials, study guides and ECTS course descriptions, and translate these into relevant and contemporary learning content, including digital learning environments. You will plan and chair examinations and participate in examination boards, pedagogical meetings, working groups, entrance examinations, the Open Day and examination juries. You will take on partial responsibilities related to study and learning pathway guidance, quality assurance and internationalisation. You will keep your expertise up to date through study and research, with particular attention to developments in the field and innovative teaching and assessment methods.

Profile

We are looking for a colleague who:

  • holds a higher education degree in Music, with a specialisation in Classical Music;
  • preferably holds a pedagogical qualification;
  • has strong organisational and communication skills, both oral and written;
  • has a personal vision on the functioning of a brass section within higher arts education;
  • has relevant experience teaching chamber music and/or ensembles with brass players and is familiar with the classical music brass repertoire;
  • demonstrates a team-oriented attitude and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues;
  • is fluent in spoken and written Dutch and English;
  • shows affinity with Artistic Research;
  • has a connection with the Belgian professional music field and/or part-time arts education (DKO);
  • is able to work confidently with Office 365, online communication tools and digital learning platforms.
