Mixlab is a platform and space for digital cultures, science, and technology in the arts.
Located at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, it functions as a digital fabrication lab and environment that supports hands-on experimentation, interdisciplinary research, and engagement with emerging media and future materials in a studio-based context.
Guided by collaboration and peer dialogue, Mixlab invites participants to develop new ways of integrating digital tools into their practice. The lab offers equipment for exploring fabrication techniques—such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and 3D scanning—as well as experimenting with sustainable materials like clay, sand, or seaweed.
Beyond the technology, Mixlab is a studio, a site of inquiry, a playground, and a community. It cultivates a space where tradition meets innovation. Here, artists, researchers, and students critically engage with technologies and alternative materials, exploring their role in contemporary art practice. It hosts workshops, classes, lectures, residencies, projects, and exhibitions, offering a platform for collaborative artistic discourse.
Mixlab is developed and coordinated by Mathias Mu, artist and researcher at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp.
The Lab serves as an open space for the Academy’s community.
