The sacral space of an action

Deceased people in Belgium can be buried again in shrouds. Within this research project, Valentine Kempynck creates the opportunity to personify this last material development. The design of the shroud takes place in consultation with the family and friends and the people who will wear the shroud. This creates a zone of communality. The designer conceptualizes and enlarges the ideas and needs of the family, a process that can be seen as a socio-artistic practice.

The project is about community art. In earlier times art always had a ceremonial, ritual, religious or political function. The research project wants to join this tradition. The artistic act as meditation, medication.
