Thinking Tools invites: Noémie Goudal

Noémie Goudal is a French artist who graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2010 with an MA in Photography and lives and works in Paris. Noémie Goudal’s practice is an investigation into photographs and films as dialectical images, wherein close proximities of truth and fiction, real and imagined, offer new perspectives into the photographic canvas. Goudal questions the potential of the image as a whole, reconstructing its layers and possibilities of extension, through landscapes’ installations.

The lecture of Noémie Goudal is part of the research project The Unruly Apparatus at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp by Steven Humblet, Geert Goiris and Anton Cotteleer. Focusing on the relationship between sculpture and photography, it explores the strenuous links between the two media. At the same time the project will invite several young artists and photographers to create a new body of work examining the relationship between both media. The work of Goudal, a mixture of photographical illusion and sculptural invention, can be understood as a probe into the artistic possibilities embedded in the conjunction between photography and sculpture.
