Classical Music

  • Jappe Dendievel, still only 17 years old, was chosen as the first bassoon at the Casco Phil ensemble.
  • The Ryelandt Trio and the Firgun Ensemble were crowned the winners of the SUPERNOVA's 2022. Read more ...
  • Flavia Valente, master student piccolo at RCA, has won the audition for piccolo solo at the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg.
  • Sarah Miller won the audition for second flute and piccolo at the Brussels Philharmonic.
  • Marlies Hollevoet, master student Composition, was selected for a BAEF Music Fellowship. She will be going to the US to continue her education.
  • Erica Vogel, master student flute with Aldo Baerten and master student piccolo with Peter Verhoyen, won the audition for piccolo solo with the Royal Marine Band in the Netherlands.
  • Marcos Carmona has won the audition for clarinet at the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra.
  • Ana Mondejar Amat, master student flute at RCA, has won three great orchestral academies at once: Orquesta Joven de Extremadura, Jove Orquestra de la Generalitat Valenciana and Joven Orquesta Nacional de España.
  • Jens Vermeiren, master student in piano, won second prize at the Stephan De Jonghe piano competition.
  • Fleur Strijbos, master student vocal studies, won second prize at the European Lions Club Singing Competition in Belgium. Student Leander Carlier snapped up the first prize.
  • Julita Burzynska, BA 3 flute, won second prize in the Dutch International Flute Competition.
  • Sarah Miller, Erica Vogel, and Maria Leiva Sepulveda, piccolo students, have been selected for this year's Piccolo Artist Competition which will take place in Chicago in August. 
  • The Arts in Society awards named two master students as well as an alumnus as winners: Richard He, Simone Nguyen and Isaak Duerinck. Read the full article.
  • Brass Band Willebroek, in which the Antwerp Conservatoire is exceptionally well represented, may call itself the best brass band in the world for the second year in a row. 
  • Julita Burzynska, MA 1 Flute, won third prize in Concors Gazzelloni for flute.
  • Richard R. Hé won third prize in the Malmö Piano Competition 2022 in category E.
  • Thibaut De Bondt, bachelor euphonium, came 2nd very nicely at the renowned Gran Premio Povoletto competition in Italy. 
  • Natalia Gladkowska, a Polish flute student with Aldo Baerten, was offered a seat in the Academy in Orchestra of National Music Forum in Wroclaw.
  • Festival Brassband with teachers Steven Verhaert and Bernd Van Echelpoel and lots of students and alumni was awarded best brass band in Belgium!

 

JAZZ

  • The Belgian Jazz Meeting is a biennial international meeting for the professional jazz sector with the main objective of promoting Belgian jazz abroad. The Antwerp Conservatoire is very well represented in the 11 Belgian jazz bands that are allowed to participate in 2022: Trui Amerlinck, Roeland Celis and Mathias Vercammen play with Nabou. Pentadox is with alumni Samuel Ber and Bram de Looze. Cinema Paradiso and schntzl have their roots in the Conservatoire.
