Antwerp Jazz Orchestra on tour

The Antwerp Jazz Orchestra, originally founded to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the jazz department at the Conservatoire, will be touring again. Guest musician of choice is none other than American Chris Potter, saxophone virtuoso, composer and multi-instrumentalist.

The Antwerp Jazz Orchestra is a big band with an international line-up, consisting of students and jazz teachers of the Antwerp Conservatoire, complemented with talented musicians from the conservatoires of Stavanger, Amsterdam and Bern, and is conducted by Bert Joris.

Chris Potter

After a successful collaboration with Joshua Redman in 2018, the Antwerp Jazz Orchestra is now inviting none other than American saxophone virtuoso Chris Potter as guest soloist. For over 25 years, Chris Potter has been at the absolute international elite of the jazz scene. With a discography of about 20 recordings as a leader and 65 recordings as a sideman, he can boast a large repertoire with greats like Dave Holland, Paul Motion, Steve Swallow, Pet Metheny, Dave Douglas, Antonio Sánchez, Kenny Wheeler, John Scofield, Craig Taborn, ...

Pieces from this rich repertoire were selected and arranged for the Antwerp Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Bert Joris.

Bert Joris

As a trumpet player, composer, arranger, conductor and pedagogue, Bert Joris has acquired a unique position in the international jazz scene. He has worked with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra for many years, has dozens of recordings to his name and is known for his long-term collaboration with new talent as well as established musicians. He is therefore the ideal person to steer this project artistically in the right direction.
