Antwerp Queer Choir performance

For three months, 45 people from the queer community meet weekly to sing together. (Music) theatre makers Danny de Jong and Isaak Duerinck search for harmony with the singers - not in the classic gender-based voice distribution, but through conversations, workshops and sparkling songs.

Our voice can be an instrument, a signboard, a megaphone, a weapon. How do you handle your voice as a queer person? Speech therapist and voice therapist Katrien Eerdekens works with the singers on healthy use of the voice, especially for voices during or after gender transition. Above all, Antwerp Queer Choir wants to be a safe space where everyone can let their voice be heard and uncompromisingly be themselves.

The choir will make itself heard for the first time with a colourful performance at this happening, which will also provide space for images and stories, focus discussions and guest acts by queer performers. On the pupiter? Diana Ross, Lizzo, Ann Christy and maybe even a touch of Eurovision....

Antwerp Queer Choir is the Arts Education Project of Danny de Jong and Isaak Duerinck for the Educational Master at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp.

All proceeds from ticket revenue will go entirely to Het Opvanghuis / Le Refuge in Brussels, an emergency shelter and support structure for LGBTQIA+ individuals aged 18-25 who are excluded in their personal environment because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
