The researchers developed a vocabulary to describe the “Transferable Skills” (TS) that are part of the identity of every contemporary dancer.</p> <p>Ellen Dierckx (Drama), Maarten De Splenter (Music) and Karin de Fleyt (coordinator CORPoREAL) want to research if and how these “Transferable Skills” can be interpreted within the artistic languages of music and drama and how they can broaden knowledge and transfer these languages, also in feedback to the domain of dance. The record contains a warm welcome in 55 different languages, the sound of a waterfall smashing into a rock, and the music of Bach, Beethoven and Berry (Chuck). How can you start a philosophical conversation using a musical trigger? How do you transform these conversations into a theatrical context? Which theatrical context can best stimulate philosophical conversations? Is it possible to philosophize live on stage during a performance and how will this affect the performance? The idea that VR technology (virtual reality) can lead to stories that are more immersive than all previous story technologies is not new. But in reality, VR applications in the past decades have been limited to lab environments and specialized industries. Since the launch of the Google Cardboard platform and the Oculus Rift headset by Facebook, VR applications now seem to be reaching consumers.</p> <p>The possible breakthrough of 'immersive storytelling' for a large audience poses challenges for both makers/creaters and users. On the side of the creators, there is the impression that many showcases still rely on the grammar of older media (such as film or games) and that they only use the possibilities of this new technology as "gimmick". Storytellers must not only master the technical and production side of "immersive storytelling", but must also investigate how they can embed the new technical possibilities in new and old narrative techniques. As far as the user experience is concerned, we still have few methodologies to determine whether an immersive story is successful, what success means at all and in which the user experience could or should differ from user experiences with more traditional story forms.</p> <p>The central research question of this project is: How can cultural institutions, civil society organizations or companies that (want to) use national and international virtual platforms intensify the user experience of their audience? To answer this question, a multidisciplinary collaboration is essential between the following internal partners: Graphic &amp; Digital Media, Electronics-ICT, Journalism, the Royal Academy and the Royal Conservatory.</p> <p>Promotoren:<br /> Silvia Van Aken<br /> Kristof Timmerman<br /><br /> Researchers:<br /> Tom Peeters<br /> Frederik Marain<br /> Wannes Heirman<br /> Jeroen Cluckers<br /> Sven Mariën<br /> Janna Beck</p> </div> <div> <div class="label">Discipline(s)</div> <div> <div>Visual Arts</div> </div> </div> <div> <div class="label">Project type</div> <div>Research project</div> </div> <div> <div class="label">Period</div> <div><time datetime="2017-09-18T12:00:00Z">18/09/2017</time> - <time datetime="2019-09-16T12:00:00Z">16/09/2019</time> </div> </div> <div> <div class="label">Promoter</div> <div> <div><a href="/en/person/kristof-timmerman" hreflang="en">Kristof Timmerman</a></div> </div> </div> <div> <div class="label">Fellow researchers</div> <div> <div><a href="/en/person/janna-beck" hreflang="en">Janna Beck ENG</a></div> <div><a href="/en/person/jeroen-cluckers" hreflang="en">Jeroen Cluckers</a></div> <div><a href="/en/person/kristof-timmerman" hreflang="en">Kristof Timmerman</a></div> </div> </div> <div> <div class="label">Financiering</div> <div> <div>PWO</div> </div> </div> <div> <div><article data-history-node-id="2063" class="node node--type-research node--view-mode-panel clearfix node--promoted"> <div> <div class="layout layout--onecol"> <div > </div> </div> </div> </article> </div> </div> <div> <div class="label">Departmenten</div> <div> <div><a href="/en/node/19" hreflang="en">Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp</a></div> <div><a href="/en/node/20" hreflang="en">Royal Conservatoire Antwerp</a></div> </div> </div> <div> <div class="label">Research group</div> <div> <div><a href="/en/researchgroup/maxlab" hreflang="en">Maxlab </a></div> </div> </div> <div> <div class="label">Labels</div> <div> <div><a href="/taxonomy/term/31" hreflang="nl">research</a></div> <div><a href="/taxonomy/term/75" hreflang="nl">music</a></div> <div><a href="/taxonomy/term/89" hreflang="nl">visual arts</a></div> <div><a href="/taxonomy/term/70" hreflang="nl">drama</a></div> </div> </div> <div> <div class="label">Display Title</div> <div>Show&amp;Tell</div> </div> Fri, 15 Mar 2019 11:27:00 +0000 tine 2063 at https://ap-arts.be ART4DEM https://ap-arts.be/index.php/project/art4dem <span>ART4DEM</span> <span><span lang="" about="/index.php/en/user/51" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">tine</span></span> <span>Fri, 15/03/2019 - 11:03</span> <div><p>ART4DEM is developing a multidisciplinary program for citizenship education (BSE) in primary and secondary education. The project explores new ways to work on civic education through participatory art forms and forms of new media. BSE in education has significant challenges. Despite the persistently low scores for democratic attitudes among Flemish students, the education world is hesitating and struggling with their approach. For example, schools give varying meanings to citizenship and many work sporadically on it. Research also points to the gap between young people, depending on their level of education and social background, which manifests itself more in cities. Some authors therefore emphasize the importance of new forms of BSE, which are more in line with the environment and participation wishes of children and young people. Schools in turn are requesting an intra-muros offer.<br /><br /> The central research question is: how can artistic methods contribute to BSE in a diverse context in the 3rd stage BaO and the 1st degree SO?<br /><br /> The project is a collaboration between different departments of the AP Hogeschool. The Schools of Arts, the Royal Conservatoire and the Royal Academy, work from multidisciplinary insights and knowledge of creative processes, the Education &amp; Training department on the educational world and didactics, the Social Work program on inequality and the importance of social involvement in design-oriented trajectories in 6 schools . The experiments include two theater forms (1- Mantle of the Expert, research project by Bob Selderslaghs, 2-participative drama i.s.m. vzw Sering) and a visual interactive method (3-Interactive Design). This involves qualitatively and quantitatively examining what the trajectory means for all involved (pupils, teachers, school policy), what the influence is on the pupils' democratic skills, attitudes and behavior and on the democratic school culture.
