Didactic concept

Practice in theory & theory in practice
Practising the arts and art theory are always closely linked. In the Academy, practice and thinking about art go hand in hand. Art history, art philosophy and research methodology offer you, along with more specific theory courses, the tools to evolve into a full-fledged artist or designer. During the master programme you work independently on an artistic graduation project in which your theoretical knowledge and your artistic skills come to a personal synthesis. Various masterclasses offer you the opportunity to work together with students from different disciplines, and with with artists and researchers.

Art as research & research in art
The Academy is not merely a place for study and creation, but also for research in the arts. Our numerous doctorates in the arts, in collaboration with the University of Antwerp, are proof of this. But artistic research is more than that. Various artistic research projects transcend the disciplinary approach and provide space for critical reflection on artistic practice. The extensive range of research-oriented guest lectures, workshops, master classes and research days contributes to the development of your artistic research skills.
