Migrating Music brings music by composers who migrated or fled in their lives, and researches how these experiences influenced their work.
The trio ‘Solear’ brings the music to life, supported by projections that tell stories of war, conflict and hope. These images expose a stark contrast between the idyllic musical landscape and the reality of migration. The performance bridges to the present by collaborating with drama student Pau Stuyck De Graef.
Through interviews, she collected stories of migration from Antwerp, which will be interwoven with the musical pieces. This will create a thread that brings together old and new migration stories in a critical and moving way. An inspiring mix of music, image and story that connects past and present. With music by, among others: Frédéric Chopin, Manuel De Falla, Django Reinhardt and Sergei Rachmaninov.
Musicians: Jonas Van Os (guitar), Philip Brodzinski (guitar) and Rik Baeyens (drums), Pau Stuyck De Graef (recital).
