The annual heritage concert of the Peter Benoit Foundation, better known as the 'Peter Benoit Herdenking', takes place on the anniversary of Benoit's death.
Programme
The Desguin Quartet performs Benoit's String Quartet, a youthful work from 1858. The sonata for viola and piano by Victor Legley is performed by the quartet's viola player Rhea Vanhellemont, accompanied by Stephanie Proot. The piano sextet on old Flemish folk songs by Jef Van Hoof, Joseph Ryelandt and Arthur Meulemans is also on the programme.
The Peter Benoit Prize will also be awarded during the Peter Benoit Memorial Day. In 2022 we shall be starting a new, four-yearly cycle, with the composer's career prize as the first in line. This prize rewards a composer who has made a qualitative contribution to Flemish musical life through the totality of his or her oeuvre.
