Studium Generale's annual theme for the academic year of 24-25 is 'hidden networks'
On Wednesday, the 19th of March 2025, we welcome:
- Doek vzw with speakers Lies Van Assche, Nadia Mohmand en Ramzia Hasan
- Title lecture: City Fabric - The collaborative and connecting potential of sharing textile actions
Lies Van Assche’s artistic practice around textiles is diverse in terms of craftsmanship, and interwoven with other fields in society such as migration and ecological sustainability. Her socially engaged art practice revolves around encounter, exchange and the formation of a polyphonic community. The starting point is everyone’s own textile practices and/or textile memory. This network finds a home base in DOEK, an open studio that she founded with the aim of encouraging this network bottom-up.
Practical
- 16:00 – 19:00: City Fabric (you can register via 3 time slots of 60 minutes, or join spontaneously)
- 19:00 – 21:00: Introduction to the City Fabric installation, followed by a group conversation
Between 16:00 and 19:00 you can get started with needle and thread together with Lies Van Assche and two master embroiderers Nadia Mohmand and Ramzia Hasan from the network during the City Fabric project that will be set up in the entrance hall of Campus Noord. Please register for one of the three time slots of 60 minutes.
At 19:00 Lies will give an introduction to the City Fabric installation, followed by a group conversation about the emotional and connecting potential of textiles.
