March 22, 2016. It is still early morning when two bombs explode at Zaventem airport and one at Maelbeek metro station. 35 dead and 340 injured: the toll is terrible. Days after the attacks, Hicham Chaib of Borgerhout appears in a video by IS glorifying the terrorist acts and executing a hostage. Younger brother Mohamed Amin Chaib rubs his eyes. How did his big brother get so derailed? What did his departure and his role with IS mean for his family? What is the way forward for our pluralistic and super-diverse society? How can we structurally eliminate the breeding ground of violent extremism? In the honest and candid book Aanslag op het hart, he goes in search of answers. From his expertise and experience in the mosque, education and youth work, he identifies the problems and offers tools.
