Excellent performances for Ludwig Albert's marimba class

The weather may not have been favourable, it was nevertheless a bright summer for the students of the Marimba class of Antwerp Conservatory. Astrid Espinosa Bordón, Mukhammad Aziz Akbarov and Jorge M.E. Rodriguez can all add a laureate title to their résumé, after taking part in the Universal Marimba Competition & Festival Belgium, the most prestigious competition for marimba players in the world.

Marimba master Astrid Espinosa Bordón won four prizes together with her partner Rodrigo Fernandes Marques. They were crowned 'First Prize Laureates' of the Chamber Music competition and went on to win the 'Best Performance Prize', the 'Originality Prize' and the 'Publishing Prize' for performing their own compositions. This recognition immediately launches the duo to the international top in their field, both as marimbists and as composers. The national and international invitations to perform were not long in coming. This summer, they already gave presentations at international festivals and received invitations for recordings.

Master student Mukhammad Aziz Akbarov came third in the category for marimba duos with the KOINOT Duo.

Postgraduate student Jorge M.E. Rodriguez was sixth laureate in the category for marimba solos.

Congratulations to all laureates. A great performance in this competition is an excellent starting point for a promising career.
