Between Action and Intuition: Conceptual Art through the Philosophy of Kitaro Nishida
In this lecture, Okumura will sketch out an alternative perspective on conceptual art practiced in the late '60s and early '70s, basing his discussion on the term's initial definition proposed by American artist Sol LeWitt and further articulating it through the lens of philosophical ideas elaborated by Japanese thinker Kitaro Nishida, with particular attention to their shared focus on the body as an intuitive instrument to stimulate the world with selfless actions.
