7 March 2023, 12:30-14:00
at the Research Room, Academy

Isabelle Cordemans
Isabelle Cordemans is a multimedia artist living between Antwerp, Belgium, and the US. For the past decades, her image-driven practice has revolved around staged or accidental encounters between people, objects and animals, which she transforms into abstracted, layered scenes. Her work has appeared in shows in the US, Latin America and Europe, including recently the Coupee Collage Collective in the Dr. Guislain Museum in Ghent, Belgium.
At the Academy, Cordemans is working on the research project 'Tragedy and Levity: a reconstructive approach'. This research is intended as a photographic inquiry into the phenomenon of cortical blindness, a form of visual/spatial loss resulting from damage to the brain, rather than the eyes. Cortical blindness has been described as the loss of one’s sense of ‘whereness’.
