Hans Roels is a composer and artistic researcher at the Schools of Arts Antwerp and guest lecturer at the School of Arts Ghent. He is interested in music that is specifically made for locations outside the concert hall, radical forms of simultaneity and polyphony (Ch. Ives of H. Brant) and in the creative process of composing. His compositions are written for a variety of instruments and media, like acoustic ensembles, instruments with live electronics, live algorithmic pieces for computer controlled music robots and acoustic works for multimedia installations.
He received various commissions from Champ d’Action, the Spectra Ensemble, November Music festival, the Spiegel Quartet, Zwerm, etc. His works were played in concert halls and musea such as the Issue Room Project (New York), Cafe Oto (London), Musikhochschule (Cologne), Felix Meritis (Amsterdam), Circolo de Bellas Artes (Madrid), de Singel (Antwerp) or Bijloke (Ghent).
