In the past, Hendrik Lasure has concentrated mainly on finding a middle ground between improvisation and composition, making choices without clinging to himself as improviser. In recent years he started to incorporate electronic elements in his improvisations and compositions. Both hardware and software synthesizers (Yamaha DX7 FM synthesizer, KORG Poly800, Ableton Live, ...) are among his daily instruments. The extensive use of programs such as Ableton Live now enable him to implement a wide variety of production techniques in his game.
Because Hendrik's interest in electronics mainly starts from a love for acoustic subtlety and nuance, the manipulation always comes from that acoustic point of view. For example, with SCHNTZL (http://www.schntzl.com/), the duo with Casper Van De Velde, he uses an Organelle (critter & guitari). This instrument works with the open-source software Pure Data. Hendrik uses the instrument to send sound from a contact microphone to Casper's drum set by a vocoder. This way it is possible to let every stroke of Casper on a cymbal become a chord or note, up to Hendrik’s choice.
