Johanna Maria Roels has developed a piano pedagogy out of her teaching practice in part-time art education, in which different dimensions of musicality such as listening, designing, writing, performing and reproducing are brought together. The method has an interdisciplinary character through the integration of visual expression.
Results of the method were recorded in her books Kinderen op vleugels (2002) and Kinderen op vleugels 2, Analytisch Praktisch Werkboek (2015). Since 2000, results of her working method have been introduced in her teaching methodology courses at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and communicated at numerous national and international congresses. At the University of Antwerp - department of Education and Educational Sciences - her work has known a deepening and this has resulted in a doctoral dissertation and several publications in international peer-reviewed ISI journals in the field of music education. As a postdoctoral researcher she continues her work at the university.
