Sound artist and doctoral researcher Katharina Smets models documentary materials into audio stories, both for live performances and for podcasts. Katharina works as an independent maker in Belgium, the Netherlands, the US and Great Britain. Her collaborations with other artists and musicians invariably start from a shared fascination for vulnerable and powerful personal stories.
Together with ensemble Revue Blanche, the musical story Misia in 2019, which was also broadcast as a podcast on Klara. The podcast was nominated for Prix Marulic and took bronze at the Prix Europa. With her own collective The Space Between with Ingrid Leonard (image) and Inne Eysermans (sound/music) she made the documentary performance Fotograf, in co-production with music theater LOD. In 2020-2021 she worked on the narrative podcast The Voices commissioned by Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. In the fall of 2021, the second performance of The Space Between premiered: the documentary performance LAND, which takes place in Detroit. Katharina is currently working with the ensemble Revue Blanche and composer Frederik Neyrinck on a new podcast and performance.
