Louis Eeckhout (°1995, Waregem), is a pianist, musicologist, arranger, and composer from Gent. He studied Art Sciences (musicology and economics) at the university of Gent and Humboldt Universität in Berlin after which he studied Jazz piano at several conservatories (Luca School of Arts, Centre des Musiques Didier Lockwood, Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen). In this period, he was, among others, taught by Ewout Pierreux, Marie-Anne Standaert, Benoît Sourisse, Nathalie Loriers, Ben Sluijs, Piet Verbist, Nic Thys, Nathan Wouters, Pierre Perchaud and Frank Vaganée. For the time being, he is a sideman in several bands (Three for Two, ‘T Mouvement) and has his own piano trio. Musically, he is most attracted to groove-based music, classical symphonic works, and jazz. His own musical praxis is centered on improvisation based jazzmusic of the previous and current century and own compositions and arrangements. Lastly, he also has a fascination for all the arts and more specifically how they interact with music.
