Maya Verlaak is a Belgian composer (born in Ghent, 1990). Context analysis, strong concepts, and experimental methods for improved communication with musicians are central to her work. Her music is performed worldwide and has been released by labels including NMC Recordings, BRC, and Another Timbre.
Maya studied composition at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. In 2019, she earned her doctorate from Birmingham City University, supported by the Midlands3Cities Doctoral Training Partnership scholarship.
She is the founder of the concert series Post-Paradise and the Acid Police Noise Ensemble, and a member of iii in The Hague.
Since 2018, she has been a main subject teacher in composition at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
