Jazz saxophonist and composer, Nicolas Kummert has been performing for almost twenty-five years. He always enjoyed playing in very different contexts, from traditional to modern jazz, to experimental free music, African music, or playing in clubs with DJs.
Twenty years after obtaining his first master's degree in jazz saxophone in KCB (Brussels) he obtained a second master's degree, in composition for film and theatre, in Artez (Arnhem) in June 2023.
Passionate about acoustics and convinced music lies as much in the subtle variations a musician makes while playing his instrument as in the notes he plays, he was always attracted by electronic music and its specific expressivity as well. This led him to develop his own modulation setup aimed at expanding electronically the expressive possibilities of acoustic instruments without betraying their sonic specificities, exploring the grey area between acoustic and electronic.
He intends to continue exploring their use in interdisciplinary contexts (films, dance) as well as on stage.
