Stefan Van Puymbroeck (°1970) studied piano with Levente Kende and composition with Willem Kersters and Luc Van Hove at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, where he obtained a Master in Music and first prizes in Notenleer and Music History. He attended master classes piano with Jean Brouwers in Brussels.
His first orchestral work November (1995) was created in deSingel in Antwerp, a composition for flute and piano was published and numerous arrangements for various clients appeared by his hand. His Piano Sonata Nr. 1 (2002) was awarded the Jef Van Hoof Prize 2004.
Stefan van Puymbroeck came to the attention during the 2002-2003 season with his first piano concerto, which was successfully created by the Beethoven Academy under the direction of Jan Caeyers and with his own piano teacher, Levente Kende, as a soloist.
In 1996 he wrote a music-science study on the opera The Fiery Angel by the Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev. Over the years, Van Puymbroeck has emerged as a specialist in the life and work of Prokofiev.
