Timmy De Laet

Timmy De Laet is a Tenure-Track Professor of Theatre and Dance Studies at the University of Antwerp and a Lecturer at the BA and MA dance program of the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp. Before starting his tenure at the University of Antwerp, Timmy has worked as a Visiting Scholar and Adjunct Faculty Member at the Dance Department and the Institute of Dance Scholarship of Temple University (Philadelphia, PA, USA). Timmy is the co-founder and coordinator of “CoDa | Cultures of Dance – Research Network for Dance Studies”. He is Associate Editor of the European Journal of Theatre and Performance, and a member of the editorial boards of the Flemish performing art journals FORUM+ and Documenta. He has worked as a dramaturge with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui for the productions 3S (2020) and Vlaemsch (chez moi) (2022).
 
Timmy’s research has been funded by various sources, including the Fulbright Commission, the Belgian American Educational Foundation (B.A.E.F.), and the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO). He received his PhD from the University of Antwerp, with a dissertation on re-enactment in European contemporary dance. His research interests include the reiterative nature of dance and performance in relation to archivization, documentation, and historiography. His writings on these topics have been published in journals as Dance Research, Tanz, Muséologies, and Performance Research, as well as in various anthologies, including The Oxford Handbook of Dance and Reenactment (2017) and The Routledge Companion to Dance Studies (2020). Other recent publications are Language and Performance: Moving across Discourses and Practices in a Globalized World (special issue of the European Journal of Theatre and Performance, co-edited with Małgorzata Sugiera and Karel Vanhaesebrouck, 2021), and Choreographic (Re)Collections: Archiving Dance in Flanders (special issue of Documenta, co-edited with Annelies Van Assche, 2021).
