Quality of education

The systematic pursuit of quality education

Every programme meets the quality criteria set by the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) and in particular the Flemish Qualifications Structure (VKS).
To this end, the Conservatoire uses an internal quality assurance system based on the quality policy of the AP University College. With a range of instruments tailored to art education, the quality of each programme is supported, monitored and evaluated. Through data analysis and benchmarking, through the monitoring of curriculum changes, through questionnaires and focus discussions with students, teachers, alumni and staff, programmes can evaluate, optimise and ensure their operations.

In addition, the Conservatoire and its programmes keep their finger on the pulse by systematically involving an external perspective. Input in artistic councils and artistic bars gives rise to the maturing of new insights that contribute to quality improvement.

The validated quality of each programme

In consultation with AP University College, the Schools of Arts opted for an evaluation of the mostly multilingual artistic programmes by external assessors with international experience in the intersection of higher arts education and teaching quality. This choice offers the added value of international benchmarking and international recognition through the Visiting and Assessment Body (VBI) quality label.

Each programme is evaluated every six years through a VBI by an international committee using the European Standards & Guidelines (ESG). The systematics used focus on the continuous quality development of the programmes. Gaining insight, setting improvement actions and assuring quality are critical success factors.

The validated quality of the college

During the Institutional Review of AP University College (2017), an international committee evaluated the quality of the educational policy at the college level and examined whether the institution was able to ensure the quality of its programmes 'in its own direction'. The committee assessed the quality of the educational policy pursued positively, and the advisory report on how AP monitors the quality of its programmes is also extremely positive.
