Costumes are more than just fabric, they tell a cultural, social, political and personal story. This research project wants to document and analyze the private collection of Frieda Verhees with the associated know-how so that this collection, and the story contained in it, will not be lost.
This requires historical costume research into the historical zeitgeist of music, films, art, architecture, inventions and population. The research project includes an inventory, historical analysis and pattern conversion of the costume pieces, exhibition and publication.
The aim is to use this unique collection as an educational methodology and to make a visual manual in dialogue with the profession (director, studio, etc.). The handbook will record the findings of the research project in a fiche system that can be used as a learning system by the student and as a reference book for the professional.
Finally, the entire collection would be made available to the public, so that they can be touched, and sniffed for educational purposes. The fiche system can then remain linked to the documents so that the context remains clear. The project also wants to build a new bridge between education, museums and the working field.
