From 1998 till 2013, a squatted house and cultural hub called Scheld’apen was home to an eclectic stream of artists, with over 1300 events occurring in those 15 years, before being demolished. All those events needed some form of visual communication and this printed media fascinated Scheld’apen aficionados Benny Van den Meulengracht-Vrancx and Bent Vande Sompele. Collecting items and building upon an already existing physical archive, they decided to pour a selection of works into a book: Graphic Design of Scheld’apen. The archive is currently located at Het Bos, a publicly available digital archive will come at a later date and the book will be launched alongside an exhibition featuring key works.
The project is a collaboration between artist Benny Van den Meulengracht-Vrancx, musician and visual artist Bent Vande Sompele, Het Bos and The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, under the guidance of Nico Dockx. The book is published by Stockmans Art Books.
