The research project MULTIPLE PRACTICES. The editions of Guillaume Bijl / part II, builds upon the results of an earlier project. After many conversations with the artist Guillaume Bijl, editors and collectors of his art, a list of all his works in edition was made. The list contains multiples – printmultiples as well as compositions made of objects trouvées – artist publications and posters. More than seventy different editions were identified and described in detail. They form the basis for a catalogue raisonné, an exhibition and a symposium that will be realised within the framework of this new project.
This aspect of Bijl’s art production has remained undervalued for a long time and is due for an international revaluation. Recently Bijl has a renewed interest in this medium. The project not anly wants to offer a better insight into the various editions of Guillaume Bijl and answer questions about the realisation of this aspect of his oeuvre and its relation to his larger installation projects. It also aims to bring a new generation of artists into contact with the possiblilities of this medium.
