possible spaces wants to clarify the meaning and relevance of the ‘space’ in which a theatre maker operates. Here we define space as the context in which a given performance takes place; or the framework as conceptual structure in which the performance becomes meaningful. To what extent is this framework a determining factor for interpretation of this performance? How does the framework affect the artistic process in which a performance takes shape? In what ways does the artist want to or can the artist take these context-specific influences on the perception of the work into account whilst creating the artwork, the artwork here being a theatrical production or performance? These questions are central to this research project.
