If you step into any performing arts university around the world, you will probably not get very far through the door without hearing different languages. At the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp(or RCA), in the last five years alone, students of over fifty nationalities, speaking almost as many languages, have enrolled on degree programmes in dance, drama, and music.
Resilient artists' is the name of the brand-new course that aspiring performing artists will be offered from the new academic year onwards.
In 2020, as part of her graduation project at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, double bass player Eline Cote founded the Virago Orchestra: a 90-piece orchestra consisting entirely of female musicians and performing only music by female composers. Her thesis on sexism in the world of classical music gave her the idea.
