Guy Bovyn studied art history at Ghent University. He obtained his PhD in the field of museology in which he developed a theory of exhibiting, The appearance and disappearance of the wall.
For a decade he was the training coordinator of the postgraduate management and preservation of contemporary art, later exhibiting and management of contemporary art (UGent, HoGent & S.M.A.K.). At the same time, he was active as curator of contemporary art at Galerie Kunst-Zicht (UGent) for which he curated about sixty exhibitions.
He is currently affiliated with the Department of Heritage Studies at the University of Antwerp, where he teaches museology, critical heritage studies and innovative policy and management techniques. His current research focuses on the translation of the assembly theory into the field of heritage care.
