Stefania Assandri

Stefania Assandri is a visual artist and costume designer. She graduated with a MA in Visual Arts, specialized in Costume Design (Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp, 2019). Her MA project, JUST “FAKE” IT, focused on making visible the power relationships involved in the cultural standards that define the “high” and “low” culture, calling into question the invisible norms that sustain them and their false opposition. The project won the 2019 Scenography Prize.

Assandri is a performer, co-creator and co-director of the collective project Bailamos Siempre Las Mismas Canciones. The project is an appropriation of affection, and the value of friendship and relationships. Assandri designed the costumes for the contemporary dance piece Caravana Sísmica (2017) and also works with artists of the Fundación de Arte Contemporáneo in Uruguay.

Assandri studied Textile and Fashion Design at the School of Design within the University of the Republic (Uruguay, 2015) where she was a teaching assistant in the Fashion Department.
