In curation, beyond presentation, active choices of tools and roles are made, impacting their use and individuals involved. Curators wield influence not just over roles but also the people filling them. This leads us to the issue of care in curation, where the treatment of performers comes to the fore. Performers, once essential, are now selectively employed, illustrating strategic decisions by artistic directors. This instrumentalization extends to other artists, mirroring precarious employment trends. While this trend grants artistic freedom, it also reflects a neo-liberal creative market, with freelancers navigating unstable post-Fordist conditions. This balance between freedom and socio-economic challenges underscores the complexities of curation's impact.
