Bart Van Dijck investigates the status of the object as a ritual object or artistic artefact, and explore the tension between both. In his artistic practice, which includes sculptures, installations, videos, performances and publications, objects often play a role. On the one hand they function almost like props in films, and on the other hand they are used as ritual objects.
Van Dijck is inspired by local folklore, animistic traditions and contemporary subcultures. In this research Van Dijck wants to elaborate on and contextualize this theme artistically and substantively by studying literature (anthropology, philosophy) and examples from the visual arts.
Furthermore, he is going to work on a series of objects or sculptures that suggest a ritual usability. For this he is inspired by local folklore, animistic traditions and contemporary subcultures.
