Call for applications - research project 'Forms of Life'

We invite 3rd Bachelor year and Master program students from the Fine Arts (In Situ, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture) and Photography courses to apply to the research project Forms of Life

Forms of Life will explore the links that weave together the work of art and the world; images and the living; the forms that surround us and those we create – in other words, the fabric of life itself.

The research project will unfold over the course of two years as a monthly seminar created as a time for exchange, reflection, reading, practice and encounters with international artists and thinkers from various disciplines. Several highlights will punctuate the project’s development, including a workshop in Venice and its lagoon during the summer of 2022. Artistic practice will be an important component of the research project.

Students who would like to apply are invited to send a letter describing the nature of their artistic practice and their motivation to participate in the research project (1 page), as well as document gathering a few images representative of their work or an artistic dossier.

Applications can be sent to formsoflife@mudam.com before Sunday 19 September 2021 at midnight (please name the two documents as follows: “YOUR-NAME-letter” and “YOUR-NAME-images”). Applicants will received an answer on Monday 27 September at the latest.

The research project will start in October 2021. Students enrolled in the research project shall commit themselves (on a yearly basis) to attend all the meetings of the seminar (monthly meetings from October to May, each time on a Friday, from 10.30am to 4pm – schedule to be confirmed) and the workshops (3 days in the week of January 31 in Antwerp and from July 11 to 17 in Venice – schedule to be confirmed).
