Croatian clarinetist Marija Pavlović was born in Dubrovnik. She studied clarinet at the Conservatories of Zagreb, Salzburg and Antwerp with Milko Pravdić, Alois Brandhofer, Walter Boeykens and Ivo Lybeert. She continued her studies with Pascal Moragues and Yehuda Gilad. She has won many prizes at national and international competitions, including the 1st Prize of the 1996 Croatian Radio Competition, Laureate of the 1997 Yamaha International Woodwind Competition, the Best Croatian Young Talent of the Year 1998 (Prize of the Zagreb Philharmonic and PBZ American Express).
In 2001 she was laureate of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation and 2002 she received Wurdigenpreis from the Austrian Ministry of Culture and Science. She also has first prize at the international competition AudiMozart in Italy (2006) and the Poulenc award at the IBLA Grand Prize competition (Ragusa, Italy 2006). In 2011 she won three Porin awards (Croatian Music Industry Award) for her CD of masterpieces for clarinet and piano together with Martina Filjak (best classical CD, best production and best recording). In 2011 she received the Orlando Prize (by Croatian Television and Radio) at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. In 2018 she recorded with ensemble Focus the CD Hidden Facts with masterpieces of Flemish composers for woodwind quintet.
Marija is a passionate chambristian and plays chamber music at several international festivals. She has been a guest at chamber music festivals such as Osnabrucker Kammermusiktage Classic con brio, ArtMasters in St.Moritz, Kasseler Musiktage in Kassel, Die Sachsische Mozart-Gesellschaft in Chemnitz, Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Arbanasi Chamber Music Festival (Bulgaria), Festival St. Marco (Croatia), Podium Jonge musici in Antwerp, Bozarsundays in Brussels, Associazione Filarmonica Rovereto.
She made her debut as a soloist in 1994 and since then she has played all major concertos with orchestra, accompanied by the Croatian Chamber Orchestra, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the Rijeka Philharmonic, the Zagreb Soloists, the Orchestra of the Croatian Radio, Haydn Orquestra di Bolzano e Trento, Montreal Chamber Orchestra, Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra Flanders on various international stages.
Since 2018 she is Artist in Residence with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and artistic director of the Stradun Classic Chamber Music Festival which she organizes together with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra.
