Jago Moons

Jago Moons (born 1988, Antwerp, Belgium) studied piano with Jozef De Beenhouwer and composition with Wim Henderickx at Royal Conservatoire Antwerp. He is regularly involved as artistic travelling companion with musical theatre company WALPURGIS. Together, they created the children's opera Fidelio (6+), inspired by Beethoven's only opera. With this production, they toured Belgium, France and the Netherlands from 2015 to 2020. In 2020, the performance was reworked into a short animated film on assignment by OperaVision Europe, in co-production with De Munt/La Monnaie and the Oxalys Ensemble.

Moons composes and arranges music and soundscapes for film, documentary, theatre, musical theatre and circus performances. He also collaborates with visual artists, such as for the circus performance Shenanigans (2023) by duo jam.shenanigans, An Absence of a Presence (2018) by visual artist Ralph Collier, and the documentary The Last Jewish Summer (2024) by director Thom M. Vander Beken.

In his work, Moons likes to explore new musical boundaries, inspired by synthesizers, drum computers and soundscapes. He blurs the lines between different musical genres, resulting in a unique, genre-transcending style. Jago Moons is also active as a piano teacher at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp, where he teaches in the Drama department, in the module Music creation and performance art (formerly known as Music creation and performance art).
