Mahmoud Saleh Mohammadi is a multidisciplinary artist, born in Teheran, Iran in 1979. In 2017, he finished his masters in Visual Arts at the Accademia di Brera di Milano. His artistic research is rooted into socio-cultural, artistic and relational integration, developed by using different contemporary art languages such as painting, performance, site-specific installations and participatory arts.
Living in Milan for the past ten years, he worked towards a concrete artistic language, combining visual and social arts. He believes in the strength of arts positively impacting social realities and individual lives, strengthening the artist at the same time.
In 2014, Mohammadi founded the art space Spazio Nour in Milan, a cultural safe space where various creative projects took place, all centred around the participants who are the inhabitants of the building. Originally characterized and infamous for its crime, poverty and immigration, nicknamed buco nero (black hole), the atmosphere in the building slowly but steadily changed for the better through the participatory arts. In 2020, Mohammadi moved from Milan to Antwerpen. With his move, he took Spazio Nour with him, implying it in a completely different social context of this city, (having and wanting to) refuel his research at the same time.
