Oxiea Villamonte is an American/Dutch photographer based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Having completed her BFA and MFA in photography at The Royal Academy of Fine Art Antwerp, Belgium. In 2021-2022 she worked on a start research project at The Royal Academy of Fine Art Antwerp, Belgium.
In 2023 she was selected for .tiff Emerging Belgian Photography and became a member of FUTURES Photography nominated by FOMU photo museum Antwerp.
In 2024 she has been awarded the f/stop residency at the invitation of the Dutch consulate and the Mondriaan fund, during a three-month residency she will develop a work for the festival. As well as the stipend for young talent from the Mondriaan fund.
Oxiea Villamonte is fascinated with her family's history, especially her relationship with her mother. Her work is deeply connected to her roots and her upbringing. Photographing with her families archive in mind leads to connecting with people and through that self-discovery in search for her own identity.
