Belgian soprano Valérie Vervoort studied classical vocal studies at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Brooklyn College in NY and the Operastudio Vlaanderen in Ghent.
She also attended a whole range of master classes and summer courses.
Valérie won 1st prize at the international José Augusto Alegria competition (November 2007) and is a finalist in the Elardo Competition (July 2008) as well as the International Rotary Opera Competition (Lisbon, May 2010). In 2005, she was already a semi-finalist of the International Vocal Competition of Verviers. Thanks to grants, she received support from the Flemish Community, VoicExperience, the Intermezzo Foundation and the Robus Foundation.
Valérie performed a whole range of opera roles: Serafina (Il Campanello, Donizetti) Frasquita (Carmen, Bizet), Gilda, Contessa di Ceprano, Paggio (Rigoletto, Verdi), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel, Humperdinck), Elle (La Voix Humaine, Poulenc), La Prima Cercatrice, La Prima Conversa, Suor Dolcina, Genovieffa, (Suor Angelica, Puccini), Laetitia (The Old Maid and the Thief, Menotti), Yvette, Lisette (La Rondine, Puccini), Peony (A Childhood Miracle, Rorem), Polly (The Three Penny Opera, Weill), Atalanta (Serse, Handel), Blondchen (Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Mozart), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte, Mozart), Noémi, Cendrillon (Cendrillon, Massenet), Claudia (Nine, Yeston), Dulcinea (Ambras, Van Fleteren) the soprano role in Hyperion (Maderna), Candle Light, Love Story (Arne Werkman) and Europera5 (Cage).
She has performed with Ensemble Musicamerata, the Brooklyn College orchestra, the Flemish Radio Orchestra, the Spectra Ensemble, the Charlemagne Orchestra, the Intermezzo Festival Orchestra, the Orchestra do Minho, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Moldova, the Summer Opera Orchestra (Alden Biesen), Ensemble XXI and the Hermes Ensemble.
She regularly performs chamber music and has collaborated with contemporary composers. She released several CDs, including one with music by Hanne Deneire and another with Hermes ("Hyperion" by Maderna).
Valérie teaches at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp (AP University of Applied Sciences and Arts Antwerp) and at the children's and youth choirs of La Monnaie, where she also coaches young soloists for their opera productions.
