Making public domain

This research does not assume that public space exists, but that it must be constantly created and activated. Art can play a substantial role in this process.

On the basis of four (historical) cases ('good' and 'bad' practices), it is checked which artistic strategies work to generate public space. Because generating public space is not only an artistic matter, but can also have political and social consequences, the research project is interdisciplinary.

Artists, art scientists as well as political philosophers and sociologists will engage in a dialogue about the same cases with a view on developing both contemporary relevant artistic practices (those 'working') and new theoretical insights.
