The main goal of this research project is to explore the many connections between vocal / electronic music and the realm of linguistics. Paolo Galli wants to emphasize the connections between the phonetic material of a certain text and the timbral and formal characteristics of a composition, including voice and electronics. Phonetics offers a series of discrete elements organized within a structured system that can be considered as a valuable source of compositional parameters.
Galli will focus on compositions written by Karlheinz Stockhausen (1928-2007), Gesang der Junglinge (1955-56), by Luciano Berio (1925-2003), Theme (Omaggio a Joyce) (1958), by Luigi Nono (1924-1990), Omaggio a Gyorgy Kurtag (1983), by Kaija Saariaho (1952), Lonh (1996). By way of a detailed analysis of the above-mentioned compositions, he will investigate the frequent interactions between the acoustic properties of a text and a certain electronic elaboration of it.
