'Forms of Life' in residency at the Bridderhaus

In August and September 2023, to coincide with Tina Gillen’s exhibition 'Flying Mercury', the Bridderhaus is hosting ten artists from the 'Forms of Life' research project for a series of short residencies.

Organised by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp in collaboration with Mudam Luxembourg in the context of the Luxembourg Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale, 'Forms of Life' explores the multiple resonances of a question animating all fields of contemporary creation, thought, and society: that of our relation to other forms of life, and the ways in which we inhabit the world. Its aim is to question the links that weave together the work of art and the world; images and the living; the forms that surround us and those we create – in other words, the fabric of life itself.

Developed over two years, the research project took the form of a monthly seminar at the Academy and a week-long workshop in the Venice lagoon in September 2022. The residency at the Bridderhaus and the exhibition to be presented at the Academy in October 2023 are the culmination of this project.

Artists in residency:
Rafaela Figurski Vieira, Nina Gross, Malena Guerrieri, Paul Müller, Oona Oikkonen, Laurence Petrone, Pit Riewer, Alexandra Samarova, Maria Sawizki, Witold Vandenbroeck (alumni from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp).

In collaboration with the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp and Mudam Luxembourg – Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean.
