Performance and lecture
by Chiara Percivati
What contributions do digital technologies make to the long-standing discourse on instrument preparation? How does this approach transform our relationship with the instrument, our practice, and our role?
In this performance and lecture, clarinetist and researcher Chiara Percivati presents findings from her research project Digital Tubes. In this project, she explored how embedding elements such as sensors, actuators, 3D-printed parts, and code transforms our understanding of what an instrument—specifically, a clarinet—can be. By reimagining the instrument as part of a responsive ecosystem, this research opens up new possibilities for expanding the performer’s expressive and technical reach through the interplay of digital and physical elements.
